Six Weeks, One BIG Creative Leap

Over the course of six weeks, beginners walked into the Spark Series with curiosity and walked out as confident creators. From their very first session, students weren’t just learning theory, they were experimenting, building and discovering how to tell stories through visuals that truly connect.

Running from July 6 to August 24, 2025 at the Camera TechSource Studio at 64 Hagley Park Road in Kingston, Jamaica, the Spark Series brought together a diverse group of creatives for an intensive program that blended hands-on practice with expert mentorship. Each week added a new layer of skill, moving step by step from technic

al basics to full production.

Here’s a look back at the journey, the highlights, and the people who made it all possible.

Snapshots From Each Week

This blog looks back at the series as more than a training program - it was a celebration of learning, growth and creative exploration. From mastering light to creating motion graphics, the Spark Series proved what’s possible when passion meets opportunity.

Exposure & Lighting for Photography - July 6, 2025

We kicked things off with the foundation of every great image: light. Mentor Jik-Reuben guided participants through the magic of shaping and controlling light, whether it was bending shadows for drama or setting up soft light for portraits. The “a-ha!” moments were plenty as students saw how much a single light source could transform their shots. By the end, they weren’t just snapping pictures; they were sculpting with light.

Principles of Photography - July 13, 2025

With lighting under their belt, it was time to dig into composition. Again led by Jik-Reuben, this workshop turned lenses toward framing, contrast and balance. Students practiced the rule of thirds, played with angles and discovered how small choices could turn ordinary images into scroll-stoppers. The studio buzzed with creativity as every participant left with photos that felt ready for the gallery wall or the ‘gram!

Principles of Videography - July 27, 2025

Next, it was all about cinematic storytelling. Mentor Kavouhn walked students through the gear and techniques behind smooth, emotional video. Tripods, gimbals and framing were suddenly less intimidating and more like tools in a director’s kit. Every corner of the studio became a mini movie set.

Video Editing - August 3, 2025

What’s a great shot without the perfect edit? Under Kavouhn’s guidance again, the focus shifted to cutting footage, adding rhythm and sprinkling in color grading magic. Students discovered how editing is more than trimming clips, it’s where the story is actually told. From pacing to polish, every keystroke brought their projects to life.

Motion Graphics - August 17, 2025

Enter Trey Daye, our Motion Graphics instructor, bringing the flair. This session was all about bringing static visuals to life with motion graphics. From animated text to dynamic overlays, participants learned how to give their content that extra “wow” factor. The best part? Designing bold thumbnails that pop in any feed. By the end, laptops were glowing with kinetic typography and students had leveled up their digital storytelling game.

Spark Production Workshop (Capstone) - August 24, 2025

Everything came full circle in the grand finale. Led by Kavouhn, the final workshop pulled together every skill students had been building - lighting, photography, videography, editing and motion graphics. This was the big test: could they work as a team to produce a real project from start to finish?

The answer: absolutely yes! Groups set up lights, rolled cameras, directed talent and cut their footage into polished final pieces - thanks in part to the support of our product sponsor, Pepsi. The room was electric with teamwork, problem-solving and that creative adrenaline you only get on set. By the end of the day, participants weren’t just practicing anymore, they were producing.

Voices from the Spark Creators

Don’t just take our word for it:

"It was a great session where theory met practical and there was catalytic experience. Well done team!" - Verrol B.

"This is an amazing workshop, very insightful! The instructor was very patient, clear & accomodating to all questions. Thanks for this guys!" -Danielle O.

"I came in clueless and left with skills, content and new creative friends. Spark Series? 10/10 experience." - Javon T.

Looking Back With A Smile

Many participants touched a DSLR or editing software for the very first time in July. By August? They were producing polished content that could sit proudly on a brand’s social feed or portfolio.

The Spark Series proved that with the right mix of mentorship, tools and hands-on practice, beginners don’t stay beginners for long, they become creators!

What stood out to me during this Spark Series was the real progress participants made in just a few weeks. The confidence they built, the discipline they showed, and the quality of work they produced prove what’s possible when creativity is given structure and support. I’m proud of what the team accomplished and even more excited about where these skills will take each participant.

Working on this series has been such a privilege and a joy. It’s rare to be part of a project that’s not only rooted in passion but also aligns so closely with your own career journey. To see my efforts make even a small ripple—both in the industry and in students’ careers—has been truly amazing.
