Where Curiosity Thrives

The Spark Series isn’t just a set of workshops, it’s a movement. Over six weeks, over 60 beginners and aspiring creators in Kingston came together to explore photography, videography, editing and motion graphics. Across all sessions, this added up to over 120 total attendances, reflecting the excitement and engagement of participants throughout the series. But the real magic? The transformation that happened beyond skills.

Building a Supportive Creative Community

One of the most powerful outcomes of the Spark Series was the sense of community it fostered. Many participants joined unsure of their abilities, wondering if they had what it takes to create professionally. By the end of the series, they discovered that growth isn’t just about mastering a camera or software, it’s about having people to lean on. Mentors, peers and facilitators provided encouragement, guidance and feedback every step of the way, creating an environment where no question was too small and no challenge too big.

Attendance varied each week, from 20 participants in week one to 26 in week four, with consistent engagement throughout the program. Students built meaningful connections that continue even after the workshops, with many still reaching out to fellow creatives and mentors to collaborate and seek guidance.

Refining Skills, Gaining Confidence

From exposure and lighting to motion graphics, participants practiced hands-on techniques each week. The capstone production workshop allowed them to apply everything they learned in real-world scenarios, building not just technical expertise, but the confidence to tackle creative projects independently. You can check out their work in our Student Gallery.

A standout highlight was the collaboration with Pepsi, where 20 participants got to create professional product videos and imagery using real brand guidelines. This unique opportunity gave students portfolio-ready work and the experience to proudly say they worked with a major brand.

Scholarships That Open Doors

The Spark Series also rewarded dedication and potential. Three students received scholarships to participate in the 2025 Spark Series workshop, ensuring that financial barriers wouldn’t stop them from growing as creatives.

Mentorship That Makes a Difference

The Spark Series mentors didn’t just teach, they inspired. Participants received personalized guidance, learned how to problem solve on the spot and discovered ways to push their creativity further than they thought possible. Students frequently remarked that “theory met practical” during workshops and by the end, many expressed excitement for the next series, a testament to the catalytic effect of mentorship and hands-on learning.

Creating a Network for the Future

Connections formed during Spark Series go beyond the classroom. Participants left with new friends, collaborators and a network of like-minded creatives. A Spark Series Instagram community is in the works and alumni are already building networks that extend beyond the workshops.

The Lasting Impact

The Spark Series proved that with the right guidance, a supportive community, and hands-on experience, beginners can grow into confident creators. The program isn’t just about learning technical skills - it’s about believing in your potential and knowing that you’re not alone in your creative journey.

Whether you’re unsure of your abilities or looking to refine your skills, the Spark Series is more than a workshop, it’s a launchpad for confidence, creativity and connection.
